CONGRATULATIONS MRS ELLIOTT

Congratulations to Mrs Elliott who was successful through the merit selection process and has been appointed as our Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction (AP, C&I).  This role is a Department of Education initiative with AP, C&I positions being introduced in all schools. Mrs Elliott will commence her new role next year.

The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction (AP, C&I) position is a leadership role dedicated to ensuring literacy and numeracy knowledge and skills are embedded in curriculum and assessment; high quality teaching practices are enhanced; and the capabilities of middle leaders are strengthened in literacy and numeracy instruction.

Mrs Elliott will provide guidance and professional learning to enhance teacher growth and development in literacy and numeracy. She will not have her own class, but will work alongside teachers, co-planning and co-teaching in a continuous improvement process that seeks to uplift teaching skills and improve student outcomes.

Our school still has a 0.2 (1 day / week) AP, C&I position that is unfilled.  We hope to be able to fill this position early next term, with a 2023 commencement date.

SRC MUFTI DAY - STEWART HOUSE FUNDRAISER - THURSDAY 15 SEPTEMBER

This Thursday, 15 September, our Student Representative Council have organised a 'Sporting Hero' mufti day, where all students are asked to come dressed as a sporting hero. Their sporting hero could be a world-famous superstar, a local personality, Mum, or Dad or simply themselves. Students are asked to bring in a gold coin donation with all money raised going to Stewart House.

Stewart House is an organisation who provide opportunities for 1600 disadvantaged public school children each year to attend their safe haven next to Curl Curl Beach at no cost to their parents or carers. During a 12-day stay, they are provided with dental, optical, hearing, and medical screening and treatment. The children participate in educational programs and excursions designed to develop their social and emotional skills, build self-esteem, and improve their overall wellbeing. This experience provides children with a much-needed break from their current circumstances, and they are inspired to see beyond the present and to have real hope and positive aspirations for their future.

PEER SUPPORT UPDATE – Final Session

In this week’s final session of the Peer Support module ‘Moving Forward’, children will reflect on what they have learned over the past eight weeks. The students will be reminded to draw on their strengths, achievements and the people who support them when faced with challenging situations. These protective factors promote confidence. They motivate students to approach new situations where they can then apply the Pause, Plan, Proceed Model to move forward in a resilient way.

We are so proud of our student leaders from Year 5 and Year 6, who have engaged enthusiastically and responsibly in the leadership of their groups. Whilst Peer Support will end this week, the bonds of friendship and trust that children have formed with students of all ages will endure.

Thank-you also to the staff of Carlingford Public School, (especially our Stage 3 teachers) who have supported our Stage 3 students so well, allowing them to excel in leadership this term.

Book Fair

The Book Fair is a family event where adults and children will have the opportunity to explore a huge range of affordable books featuring characters and subjects’ kids love and want to read about.  From newly released books and bestsellers to award-winning titles and perennial favourites.

This is also a great way for you to learn about and discuss your child's interests and every book sold benefits our school, adding resources to our library and classrooms.

The Book Fair will be held in the library and take place between Monday 19 and Wednesday 21 September and will be open each day from 8.45 am to 9.15 am and 3.15 pm to 3.45 pm.

The parade will take place between 10:15 – 11:25am and will be held under the undercroft (new building).

Parents will have the opportunity to join us for the book parade and are welcome to join their children for a picnic lunch between 11:25 – 12:10pm.

Book Week Activities

If you have any questions, please feel free to see Mr. Vitnell (Teacher Librarian) in the library before or after school.

TELL THEM FROM ME – PARENT SURVEY

This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 5 September and 21 October. Though participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

Information about the survey is available at the TTFM website.

To access the survey, click on the following link     http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/987ck

The lost property box outside the library is overflowing with clothing. If your child has lost clothing this term, please check the box after school.

Please also ensure all your child's property is clearly marked for school. We will be donating the items not claimed before the end of this term.

MISS CHEUNG'S SPORTING LIFE

Miss Cheung is a school teacher on KC in Carlingford Public School.

Miss Cheung was on the Australian Frisbee Team and she started playing frisbee in 2013. She started to play frisbee because lots of her friends in university wanted her to play it. Miss Cheung has represented Australia in the USA in 2018 and 2022. She was also in the UK in 2015 and went to Italy in 2014. She got a bronze medal in 2018.

Miss Cheung recommends frisbee to every age group who likes throwing frisbees.

Report by Clara (6C)

Facts about Frisbee

Miss Cheung plays an international sport called ‘Ultimate Frisbee’. She has played in the USA and has receives a lot of awards in 2018 and has a bronze medal with the women’s team.

Miss Cheung throws the frisbee from her stomach because if she throws too high or too low it would not fly properly. She got started at university.

Miss Cheung’s hero is Cat Phillips, she plays frisbee and AFL and is a great ambassador for women in sport.

MR LAM – FUTSAL SUPERSTAR

Mr Lam told us futsal is his favourite sport and his second favourite sport is touch football. He thought about giving up futsal so many times, but every time he could find a reason to keep playing. He really wants to improve himself. This might be the reason he never gives up.

He told us he started playing this sport because his coaches thought he was really good at outdoor soccer. Then, they got him into the indoor soccer (futsal).

Mr Lam told us we need to respect other players because not everyone can win every time, if you lose just keep going, never give up.

He has won sport clothes and some medals; you can see his team is strong and is not weak.

Lastly, Mr Lam highly recommends people to play futsal because you can make more friends. Every teammate has the same goal.

Report by Arthur (6B)

Mr Lam- International Futsal Player

Mr Lam plays futsal overseas for Australia. It is like indoor soccer, except instead of eleven players, it requires five players. He recently went to Columbia to play futsal and represent Australia.

He improves his futsal skills by training hard, having a positive mind set and always trying to improve himself.

Futsal was created because when it sometimes rains, it is better to play indoor futsal. It is a game that naturally brings players into the regular one-on-one situations with their opponent. This helps encourage players into making quick decisions on the playing field.

Mr Lam first started playing this game when he was five years old. His inspiration is the ultimate soccer player, Lionel Messi.
