Getting Ready for Primary School

Starting Kindergarten is a huge milestone for you and your family. There are lots of different ways families can support their children to prepare for transition to school. Below are a few resources that may help that have been provided by our speech therapist Veraya Govender.

Ready for Primary School Checklist

Is your child ready to start school next year?  School readiness is determined by much more that a child’s age.  In order to have a happy and successful start to school, children also need to have a firm grasp of a wide range of skills.  The checklist below will give you an overview of your child’s “school readiness” skills and help you determine areas in which your child might need additional help or practice before school begins.

Children are naturally curious about the world around them. They experience and come to understand the world and their place in it through play. Creating opportunities for children to explore, experiment, question and discover new concepts about the world in playful ways is central to their learning, development and wellbeing.
