Protocol for students unwell at school

Protocol for students unwell at school

To support our continued efforts to keep our school and community safe, please keep your child/ren at home if they are unwell and only allow them to return to school when they are symptom free.

Any student who presents at sick bay with general 'flu like symptoms', will be provided with a mask to wear and have their nominated parent/carer contacted for immediate pick up.

If you are unable to arrive at school within a relatively short amount of time, your child will be supervised in a designated area under the supervision of an Executive staff member and socially distanced from all other staff and students.

Parents/carers need to arrive as soon as possible to collect their child from school. If you will be delayed in collecting your child, we request that you make arrangements with a family member or friend to collect your child. We would hope that every family would have a 'Plan B' in place for collection of an unwell child. Prompt collection is critical.

While testing and isolation is no longer mandatory for exposures in school settings, NSW Health has provided advice on testing and isolation recommendations for the community following exposure to COVID-19 that should be considered when making decisions for your child and family. https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/management/people-exposed-to-covid

You are reminded that students cannot attend school if they are showing any symptoms of COVID-19. These include fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting, extreme tiredness, unexplained chest pain or conjunctivitis (eye infection).

If symptoms occur at any time, students should not attend school and should undertake a rapid antigen test. If a rapid antigen test is positive you/your child should isolate as someone who has tested positive to COVID-19. If you cannot access a rapid antigen test, you can attend a PCR (nose and throat swab) testing clinic. https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/management/advice-for-confirmed

Advice and further resources are available on the NSW Health website including COVID-19 guidelines and factsheets for people who tested positive or were exposed to COVID-19. Additional resources are also available on the NSW Government website. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/covid-19/Pages/self-isolation-and-testing.aspx
https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/management/advice-for-confirmed

The safety and wellbeing of our staff and students are paramount at all times. As such, we will continue to ensure that all necessary health advice is closely followed.
