Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

Interschool Sport - Primary Schools Sporting Association

Our school has been involved in the Parramatta PSSA (Primary Schools Sports Association) since it was re-introduced in 2006.

This is a competitive inter-school competition for children who are chosen to represent the school. It provides an opportunity to build team-work, good sportsmanship and competitive skills. The competition is run on Friday mornings around the Parramatta area and children travel by bus to each venue. Carlingford Public school has Senior (11, 12, 13 years old) and Junior (8, 9, 10 years old) teams that participate in Summer and Winter sports including:

Summer

  • Cricket
  • T-Ball
  • Softball
  • Newcombe Ball

Winter

  • Soccer
  • AFL
  • Netball

While student's chosen to participate in PSSA sport are away from school, the rest of the students participate in school sport, which focuses on developing skills, team-work and good sportsmanship in a nurturing and non-competitive environment.
