2022 NAPLAN RESULTS

This year’s NAPLAN results have been released. Overall, we are very pleased with our results.

‘NAPLAN online’, delivers an assessment platform, allowing students to achieve beyond the previously highest bands of 6 (for Year 3) and 8 (for Year 5).

Our Year 3 & Year 5 results compared favourably with similar school groups (SSG’s) and state averages in all areas of Literacy & Numeracy.

The percentage of students achieving within the top two bands (bands 5 and 6 for Year 3 and bands 7 and 8 for Year 5) has dropped slightly in a few areas, especially for Year 3. This is to be expected due to the disruption to learning over the past 18 months. Year 5 have made some pleasing gains in some areas, especially writing.

Well done to our students and staff. I would also like to acknowledge our parents for their efforts in home learning last year.

Details of this year's NAPLAN results can be found here.

SRC MUFTI DAY - STEWART HOUSE FUNDRAISER - THURSDAY 15 SEPTEMBER

Last Thursday’s Student Representative Council 'Sporting Hero' mufti day, was a huge success.

Sporting heroes could be seen in all shapes and forms with so many famous personalities and sports being represented.

Thank you to all the students and families who donated a gold coin on the day. $790 was raised, with all proceeds being donated to Stewart House. Well done to our SRC for organising this initiative.

LITERACY DAY - ‘TOP SHELF’ BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS

Yesterday, Carlingford Public School celebrated Book Week in style.

It was great to see so many students & teachers dressed up as their favourite book character.

There were indeed some interesting and amazing outfits. Some ‘celebrities’ spotted in the playground included, Superman, Batman, Snow White, Cinderella, Harry Potter, Where’s Wally, Darth Vadar, Cat in the Hat, Wonder Woman, Woody, Alice & all her friends and the cast of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Perhaps the most disturbing sight was Mr Norman dressed up as Mrs Trunchbull from ‘Matilda’.

The K – 6 character parade was fantastic, with one of the highlights being a special guest appearance by the Bananas in Pyjamas, B1 & B2. All students had an opportunity to share their outfits with the audience. It was so pleasing to see so many parents in attendance. Thank you to our community for their support.

Congratulations and thank you to Mr Vitnell, our teacher librarian who organised our book week activities, including our book fair, literacy activities for all classes, competitions and prizes for our students and our character parade.

We will continue to add photos to the Book Week gallery.

STAGE 2 LUNA PARK EXCURSION

On Monday our Stage 2 students visited Luna Park as part of their Science unit on forces. The staff and students had a great day. Thanks to Jolin and Josh from 4P for sharing their recounts with us.

Luna Park Excursion Recount by Jolin Wirianata 4P

On Monday, in Week 10, Stage 2 travelled to Luna Park with our teachers, classmates and parent volunteers. There were five buses to take us all there. We went there to learn about how forces are used on the rides in Luna Park. I went around with my group: Peyton, Tara, Talha, Adrian, Evan, Joshua and Rhianna.

When we arrived at the Luna Park, the parent volunteers and Mrs Pi helped us put on our wristbands. These wristbands would allow us to go on any rides. We roamed around the theme park and found the shortest line at the Tango Train. Next, we went on the Ferris wheel, Little, Volaré and Rotor. Stage 2 also went to Coney Island. At Coney Island, there were many rides like the Slides, Mirror Maze and Joy Wheel. Unfortunately, we ran out of time for the Dodgems Cars, but I hope I will be able to go on them next time I visit.

At Luna Park, we learnt about the forces that act on the rides, friction, magnetic force, inertia and how forces help us to move. We also learnt new scientific words such as weightlessness and heaviness. Weightlessness is when you feel like your floating, there is no weight pushing against you. Heaviness is when you feel like you have a lot of weight pushing against you. When we went reached the bottom of a hill we felt heaviness. When you went over a hill we felt weightlessness.

My favourite pay about the excursion was the Rotor. It made me levitate above the ground as it sounds around very fast. Even though it made me feel dizzy, I still enjoyed the experience. I felt like this was the best excursion I had ever been on. Nothing could top this excursion!

Luna Park Excursion Recount by Joshua Du 4P

On the 19th of September 2022 Stage 2 went to Luna Park. The reason for this terrific excursion was to learn more about forces, which we have been learning about in Science. We arrived at the park by bus with some teachers and parents and received our wristbands.

After we finally walked through the gates, I met a dazzling sight. The inside of the park was very fascinating. We went on the following rides: Coney Island ( it has an arcade, a maze, a slide and a wobbly bridge), Little Nipper (a shark like ride), Tango Train, Volare (a ride that is placed on top of a building and spins round and round), my nightmare, the Rotor (a ride that spins like the Volare but people stick to the wall as the room around very fast, and the ferris wheel which scared Evan to death. Other than that we also had morning tea and a lunch break.

While we had a lot of fun at the park, we also learned a lot of valuable lessons. While I watched my group riding on the Tango Train I learned the centripetal force which is a force which pushes you towards the center. While my group and I rode on the Little Nipper I learnt that inertia occurs when your body tries to move in a straight line but makes you feel like you’re being thrown outwards.

That day was a really fun day for me. I got to go on many fun rides and played with my friends. My favorite ride was the Little Nipper since it wasn’t too scary for me. I hope I can go to this fun park again since it is the best amusement park I have even been to.

Staff vs Student Netball Match Report

What a wonderful, bright sunny morning, perfect for a game of netball. It was a competitive game full of skill and high energy. The forty nine Year 6 students have trained for 6 weeks, determined to go into the record books and beat the staff team this year. Some students and staff have never played before and impressed us with their have-a-go and never-give-up attitude.

As the game continued the students showed their improved throwing and catching skills and strategic placements to challenge the staff at every pass. The staff came out with an exuberant style of play with flair and finesse. They showed the students who reigned supreme at school. All the students tried their best but the teachers were very tall and caught the students off guard to score a few more goals. Everyone had a great time.

Well done Year 6 students and staff.

The enthusiastic spectators were very boisterous swaying between cheering for the staff and the students. It was a game full of great sportsmanship and netball skills.

TELL THEM FROM ME – PARENT SURVEY

This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 5 September and 21 October. Though participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

Information about the survey is available at the TTFM website.

To access the survey, click on the following link     http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/987ck

The lost property box under the Undercroft near the lift is overflowing with clothing. If your child has lost clothing this term, please check the box after school.

Please also ensure all your child's property is clearly marked for school. We will be donating the items not claimed before the end of this term.

PEDESTRIAN CROSSING

A reminder for parents to ensure your children use the pedestrian crossings at Rickard and Keeler Street when arriving and departing from School. These crossings are supervised before and after School.

HAPPY AND SAFE HOLIDAYS

I wish students, staff and parents a well - earned, safe and relaxing holiday. Staff and students return to school on Monday, October 10.
