Principal's Report Term 3 Week 5

COVID-SMART MEASURES TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT TERM 3

From Week 5, Monday 15 August, the following COVID-smart measures will remain in place in our schools:

  • Students and staff must stay at home if unwell and not return to school until symptom-free.

  • If a student or staff member is symptomatic, they should take a rapid antigen test (RAT) and isolate until they receive a negative test result.

  • Masks continue to be strongly encouraged for all staff, students, and school visitors, particularly when indoors and when physical distancing is not possible.

  • Household or close contacts who are symptom-free can attend mainstream schools if they receive a negative RAT result every day for 5 school days and wear a mask (staff and high school students) while on site.

  • Vaccinations are no longer required for staff except for those working in Schools for Specific Purposes (SSPs). We continue to recommend all staff and eligible students and their families to keep up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations, including getting a booster shot.

  • Visitors, regardless of their vaccination status, can come to school sites but may be required to wear a mask if in close proximity to students at greater risk of severe illness if they were to get COVID-19.

  • Natural ventilation and personal hygiene should continue to be encouraged.

  • Events, gatherings, and overnight excursions are able to go ahead, and we encourage schools to consider the risks associated and make COVID-smart decisions based on the current situation with COVID-19 and other illnesses in their communities.

  • Additional circuit breaker measures continue to be implemented at schools working with the Health, Safety and Staff Wellbeing case management team, when needed.

KEELER STREET GATE

The Keeler St gate is open on timed entry each day to enable convenient entry to school for our community.

After the second bell at 9:25am each day a staff member checks the walkway is clear down to the pedestrian crossing on Keeler St and then locks the gate.

If your child is arriving at school after 9:25am, please ensure they enter school via the office in Rickard Street as this gate has unrestricted access during the school day.

YEAR 5 CAMP

Our Year 5 students and teachers are having a great time at The Great Aussie Bush Camp at Kincumber on the central coast. Students and staff had the opportunity to participate in several great activities including archery, bushcraft, the ‘giant swing’ and high ropes course.

Camp is a fantastic opportunity for students to try new activities in a safe and supportive environment. They learn to challenge themselves and build self-esteem, independence, and interpersonal skills.

Thank you to Mr Norman, Mrs Rowlison, Miss Wright, Mr Watts and Mrs Moncur for their attendance.

MULTICULTURAL PERSPECTIVES PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

Well done to Steven (4F), Violet (4E), Sana (6Y) and Amy (6C) who represented our school recently at the Zone finals of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition.

Congratulations to Steven from 4F who was declared the Stage 2 winner and will now progress to the regional finals on 8 September.

Unfortunately, Steven has moved to Korea with his family and is no longer a student at CPS. He will still be able to participate in this competition via Zoom. We wish him the best of luck!

CONGRATULATIONS RAYYAN – SYDNEY WEST CRICKET REPRESENTATIVE

Congratulations to Rayyan from 6Y who has been selected in the Sydney West Cricket team to play in the NSW Championships in Dubbo this September. Rayyan is an all-rounder who bowls leg spin. Remember his name, perhaps he’s the next Shane Warne.

PEER SUPPORT UPDATE

This week in Peer Support children will revise what they have learned about resilience and discuss the people who show them support. Through a story, the children will identify where the character has used her personal qualities, strengths, and skills to help her overcome challenges. They will identify times when the character needed support to continue. The children will discuss a range of challenges and determine the best person to approach for support. The children will finally consolidate the protective factors for resilience by revising their own strengths and skills and identifying 5 people they can go to for support.

Remind your child of their qualities and skills and encourage them to ask for help in challenging situations.
