COVID-19 CASES
A huge thank you to our families who have been using the Rapid Antigen Kits to test their children twice a week before coming to school.
At this stage, RAT tests have been made available to our families for the first four weeks of Term 1. Schools are yet to receive advice from DoE as to how long this will continue.
To date we have had about 5 students test positive to COVID-19 since returning to school.
If a student or staff member receives a positive RAT result, they need to:
o record the positive RAT result through the Service NSW website External link or Service NSW app External link
o notify the school of the positive RAT or PCR test result as soon as possible
o follow NSW Health advice External link to isolate for 7 days.
If someone in a student’s household tests positive, the student will be required to self - isolate for 7 days.
Any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to go home and stay there until they can complete a RAT or PCR test.
- If symptoms continue, they should stay at home and take another RAT in 24 hours or have a PCR test.
- If the second RAT or initial PCR test result is negative, and they are well, the student or staff member can return to school.
2022 LEARNING SUCCESS TEAM
This year, our Learning Success team, led by Mrs Tramonte, comprises of Mrs Kristensen, Mrs Eltakchi, Mrs Despotov (COVID-19 Intensive Support Teacher), Mrs Johnson (Interventionist Teacher), and Miss Govender (Speech Pathologist).
Further assistance will be provided by our School Learning Support Officers, Mrs Catt, Mrs Rana, Mrs Liles, Mrs Aravanudhan, Mrs Mallison, Mrs Sakkarwal and Miss Col.
Students requiring additional support have been identified and will be offered extra assistance (generally in in Literacy & Numeracy).
Our Learning Success Team, meets once a week to discuss how we can best cater for our students learning needs. Mr Dennis Govender, our school counsellor is also an integral part of the team. He is at CPS on every Tuesday and Thursday.
2022 EAL/D (English as an additional Language / Dialect)
Under this program, assistance is given to students of a non – English speaking background who require additional support in English proficiency. Our 2022 EAL/D team led by Mrs Edgley comprises of Mrs Calf, Mrs Grimmond, Mrs Moncur, Miss Liang and Mrs Woo.
At times students will be supported by an EAL/D teacher in collaboration with their class teacher or withdrawn from class for intensive English language tuition. English is an additional language or dialect for over 90% of our students. Our EAL/D program will commence in Week 5.
2022 TECHNOLOGY and LIBRARY RFF TEAM
Our Technology and Library RFF team, led by Mr Boyd began lessons with students this week. Students will have the opportunity to visit the library to engage in lessons and borrow books. Students will also explore a range of technologies including coding, robotics, and design. The team comprises of Mr Vitnell (Teacher Librarian), Mrs Gathercole, Mr Foo, Mr Fowler, Mrs Jones, and Mrs Woodbury.
SPORT COURTS
Our sport courts are now operational and are proving to be a popular addition to our school. Students are using the courts during play times (allocated grades), during class sport and for PSSA training. We are looking into shade sail options for the courts.
PLAYGROUND UPGRADE
Over the Christmas holidays, a number of landscaping projects were completed. A sandstone retaining wall at the rear of the COLA, a raised garden bed in front of the toilet block and sandstone blocks along buddy lane. The sandstone looks fantastic, and also increase seating capacity throughout these areas. We hope to add some plants to the garden beds during the term.
PLAY EQUIPMENT PROJECT
Planning for our playground equipment upgrade is well underway. This project is funded under the ‘Metro Renewal Program’, where the Department of Education funds 50% of the costs.
This week, students were asked to provide feedback on what type of play equipment they would like to see in our new playground.
Draft plans of the layout can be seen below. We hope to be able to share plans at our next meeting.
Work should commence on the project before 30 June this year.
