Fourth sporting house

Due to our increasing student numbers, we have decided to form a fourth sporting house commencing in 2019. We would like the whole school community to be involved in selecting a name for our new house. Traditionally, sporting houses are named after people who have made a significant contribution to the school or local area.

After discussions with staff and the P&C, we have narrowed our options down to two candidates.

Option 1: SIMPSON - (Ray Simpson)
Option 2: MACARTHUR -  (Elizabeth Macarthur)

RAY SIMPSON
Rayene Stewart (Ray) Simpson, VC, DCM was an Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces. Simpson received his award for actions in Kon Tum Province, South Vietnam on 6 May 1969. Ray Simpson was a pupil at Carlingford Public School. A memorial was presented to the school by representatives of the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV) and Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia (VVAA) in July 1996.This memorial is located in the Foyer of Carlingford Public School.

ELIZABETH MACARTHUR
Elizabeth was the first soldier's wife to arrive in New South Wales. Being educated, articulate and well read, her letters provide an important record of the infant convict town of Sydney and colonial life. She was an amateur astronomer and botanist and enjoyed a privileged position in society where she "held court amongst officers of the New South Wales Corps, naval officers and members of the colonial administration". Elizabeth's work centred on her family, the education of her children and the management of a modest household. By 1794 the Macarthurs had their own house at Parramatta, Elizabeth Farm.

Every staff member and each Carlingford Public school family will have the opportunity to vote for either ‘Simpson’ or ‘Macarthur’. Teachers and families have been sent a class Dojo message with the following link which will enable you to vote. The survey will close on Wednesday, 24 October.
