KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION
This Thursday, will be the final week of our Kindergarten transition program. Students have settled well into the routines of ‘big school’ and are having a great time in the classroom meeting our teachers and lots of new friends. Last week’s session with parenting expert Dr Rosina McAlpine, focussing on how best to prepare your child for life as a Kindergarten student, was well received.
This week’s session is outlined below,
Nov 7 – Ukulele group, P&C, canteen, school counsellor, speech pathologist, after school activities.
We have now reached 100 kindergarten enrolments for 2020 which will enable us to form our fifth class for next year.
Thank you to our amazing Kindergarten team, led by Mrs Kristensen for organising such a wonderful transition program. Also thank you to our P&C for their support of the program, our uniform shop, canteen and parent volunteers.
2020 PLANNING
Planning has commenced for our 2020 classes and class structure. We are expecting to start the year with approximately 795 students spread across 31 classes. In an effort to get staffing, student placement and resourcing as accurate as possible, it’s critical that we know how many students will be returning to CPS in 2020.
A SignMee note has been distributed for your individual children in Years K - 5 this week. Would you please log on and complete this short form for each of your children to notify us if:
· Your child/ren will be returning to CPS at the start of Term 1, 2020 – Wednesday January 29.
· Your child/ren will be re returning to CPS, but late (please provide date)
· Your child/ren are not be returning to CPS. If your child is not returning to CPS we ask you to email or provide a letter to the office.
Please complete this survey at your earliest convenience. We hope to finalise responses by Friday November 1, 2019.
PRESENTATION DAY 2019
This year our Presentation Day will be held at school on Thursday 5 December.
We will run the same format as last year with separate K – 2 and 3 – 6 assemblies. The K – 2 assembly will begin at 9:45am, with 3 - 6 commencing at 11:40am. The performance band, dance groups, choirs and Ukulele group will all be performing on the day.
In both K -2 and 3 – 6 assemblies, medallions, trophies and banners will be presented to recognise their efforts throughout 2019.
Parents of students who will be receiving a medallion, trophy or banner, will receive an email informing them of this. If you do receive an email, we request that you do not inform your child / children as we would like it to be a surprise on the day of our presentation.
We are hoping you can join us on this special occasion to celebrate the achievements of our wonderful students.
PARENT HELPERS / SCRIPTURE / ETHICS TEACHERS’ MORNING TEA
CPS will be hosting a morning tea on Thursday 28 November at 11:25am to say thank you to our wonderful scripture teachers, ethics teachers and parent helpers who have done a fantastic job in 2019, teaching and assisting our students.
Our parent and community volunteers play a vital role at our school and provide wonderful opportunities for our students and staff. Further details will be posted on class Dojo in coming weeks.

Selective High School for Year 7 in 2021
Selective high schools cater for academically high potential and gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates of their own academic standard. Selective schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and materials.
Selective high schools are un-zoned so parents can apply regardless of where they live. Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 12 March 2020.
Applications for Year 5 students wanting to apply for Selective High School (for Year 7 in 2021) opened online on October 8th. Paper information booklets were sent home for interested students. All applications are to be completed online. If you need access to a computer, please contact Miss Pires. All applications must be entered by Monday 11th November. Late applications will not be accepted. Additional information about the Selective High School application and test can be found at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7.
