OPEN DAY – AUGUST 3, 2022

  • All visitors will be required to wear a mask.

  • Students not involved in the concert will attend classes as normal. Parents / community members are welcome to attend the concert.

  • A concert 'dress rehearsal' will take place prior to Wednesday, to allow all students to see performances.

  • P&C will hold a Sausage Sizzle for lunch. Orders must be placed via Qkr! under your child’s name and class. Orders must be submitted by 10pm Monday 1 August. Your family order of sausages will be delivered to your child’s classroom.

  • Sausage Sizzle (Beef/ Vegetarians Sausages) - $4, Can of Soft Drinks - $2 and Juice/ Water - $1.50

The P&C are looking for parent helpers for Open Day. If you can help anytime between 9am and 12:30pm, please contact Emily on cpspcfundraising@gmail.com

KINDERGARTEN 2023 - OPEN MORNING

Last Thursday, we held an Open Day for 2023 Kindergarten families. We had about 60 families in attendance. Thank you to Ms. Tillett for her organisation and the P&C for providing morning tea. Special thanks to Belinda Sultana, our canteen manager who set up and served the morning tea.

100 DAYS OF KINDERGARTEN

This Friday, our Kindergarten students will reach the milestone of 100 days of Kindergarten. To celebrate, working on the theory that ‘with age comes wisdom’, our students and Kindy teachers will come to school dressed as 100 year olds. The students and staff will celebrate the milestone with a variety of great activities throughout the day. Next week, we hope to bring you some photos of our Kindergarten ‘senior citizens’.

FINAL DEBATE

Our final debate will be held Tuesday 2 August in the new hall at 10am. It will be Carlo v. Carlo. Parents, you are welcome to come and support our debaters.  We’d love to have you come and watch.

Year 4 to will be invited to the final debate so they can decide if they would like to try out for debating. We will be holding debating auditions for our 2023 teams later this term.

3-6 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

The Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday 9 August at Barton Park, Gladstone St North Parramatta, weather permitting.

This carnival is for all students in Years 3-6. Students in Year 2 who are advanced athletes and are turning eight years of age in 2022 are invited to participate in the 3-6 carnival as well as the K-2 carnival.

Students will compete in age-based events according to the age they turn in 2022. Most events are done in three groups:

Juniors - 8, 9 & 10 year olds
11 year olds
Seniors - 12 & 13 year olds.

The carnival is open to 8 year old students in Year 2, but please be aware that they will be competing against students in Year 4 (10 year olds) for all of the events except the 100m sprint. It is advisable to only consider giving permission for a Year 2 student to attend who is a strong competitive athlete.

Events on the day include:
100m, 200m, 800m running races and Long Jump.

Events to be held at school:
Shot Put and High Jump.

Permission and payment is now overdue for this activity.  Please check your email to ensure you have signed the permission note. If your child is not attending the carnival, please decline permission on the note and we will remove the event from your invoice. All Year 3-6 teachers will be at the carnival. There will be no learning activities at school on this day.

OPPORTUNITY CLASS PLACEMENT TEST

The Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held at our school this Thursday, 28 July.

Authorised students must arrive at school by 9:25 am. Their parents should have received by email a 'Test authority' letter which students are required to bring as a printed copy on the day of the test. Students may also bring a lead pencil, eraser, and sharpener in a clear zip lock bag. They will NOT be permitted to wear a smart watch or any device that contains internet access or calculator during the test.

Go to https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 to find the 'Test information for parents and students' bulletin which contains very important information about the test, including how to access the familiarisation test. This bulletin should be read carefully.

PEER SUPPORT TRAINING

Due to a sudden burst of heavy rain on Friday, we were unable to hold our first Peer Support session last week. As a result, Peer Support will commence this week. The children will be participating in the ‘Moving Forward’ module, which focuses on resilience. The experiences in the module help children to identify their qualities and strengths, develop skills, respond with a range of strategies, and seek support when faced with challenges. In this session, the children will establish connections with other members of their group and develop their group agreement to enable them to work well together. The children will discuss an example of a challenging situation and some resilient and non-resilient responses.

You might like to discuss with your child what they can do to help them take an active role in Peer Support.

Thank you to our Stage 3 students and teachers for their efforts. Special thank you to Mrs Bickham, Mr Bhandarkar and the Stage 3 team for organising 2022 Peer Support.

NATIONAL CONSISTENT COLLECTION of DATA on STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about support provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling

  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional

  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive. This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools

  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools

  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability. The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information.  To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
