Principal's Report Term 4 Week 11

SEMESTER 2 REPORTS

Semester 2 reports are now available for viewing on the Sentral Parent Portal. Congratulations to all our students on their learning efforts throughout a difficult Semester 2.

DAY 1 TERM 1 – 2022

In order to support a strong start to 2022, there will now be two School Development Days (SDD) at the beginning of Term 1, 2022. Consequently, there will only be one SDD at the end of Term 4.    For Term 1, 2022, School Development Days will take place on 28 and 31 January, with students in Years 1- 6 returning 1 February.

Students new to CPS (Years 1 – 6) will commence at 10am on February 2.

Our new Kindergarten students’ first day of school will be Friday 4 February. ‘Kindergarten Best Start’ will be held on 1, 2 and 3 February. Parents have been emailed Best Start details where they can book an assessment time that suits them.

The school swimming carnival will be held on Tuesday, 1 February in 2022 (the first day of school). Permission notes and invoices have already been sent home to families who indicated their intention to participate. Students not attending the swimming carnival should attend school as normal.

STAFFING UPDATE

Mrs Castelletti, our Teacher Librarian who has been on leave for most of 2021, has decided to separate from the Department of Education and as a result, will not be returning to Carlingford Public School.

Mrs Castelletti has been the Teacher – Librarian at CPS for 20 years, commencing here in 2002.  She has been a wonderful Librarian at our school, developing a love of literature in thousands of Carlingford students. On behalf of the students, staff and community, I would like to thank Mrs Castelletti for her contribution to Carlingford Public School. We wish her well in her ‘life after teaching’.

A number of other staff will also not be returning to CPS in 2022.

Congratulations to Mrs Muir who will commence her new permanent role at Carlingford West PS.   Miss Wright has accepted a temporary position at Cambridge Park PS and Miss Monck (Support teacher) has accepted a permanent pre – school role. Thank you ladies for your contribution to our school over recent years. We wish you all the best in your new roles.

A number of current staff will be on leave next year.

-         Mrs Neilson - Borg – maternity leave all year

-         Mrs Eltakchi – maternity leave commencing T2

-         Mrs Hall (Support teacher) – maternity leave all year

We wish you all well with the new addition to your families.

Miss Grieve, who was on leave in 2021, teaching overseas, will return to CPS next year.

LIBRARY POSITION

On Monday, interviews were held for our vacant Teacher – Librarian position. Thank you to our panel members – Mrs Tramonte (Convenor), Mr Norman (teacher rep), Emily Wong (parent rep) and Ashima Sakkarwal (EAL/D parent rep). We hope to be able to announce the successful applicant in coming days.

2021 PRESENTATION DAY ASSEMBLIES

Last Thursday our 2021 presentation day assemblies were held. Congratulations to all students on their efforts throughout the year. Photos of all our award winners were sent home to parents last week.

A huge thankyou to Rob Kerle, Emily Wong and Belinda Sultana from our P&C, who recorded each assembly on the day. Footage is currently being edited into stage segments for distribution to Class groups this week.

2022 KINDERGARTEN TRANSISTION PROGRAM

Yesterday over 100 students and their families attended day two of our Kindergarten transition program.

Students had a great time, spending time in the classroom meeting our teachers and lots of new friends.  Thank you to Mrs Tillett, Miss Cheung, our 2022 Kindergarten team, our School Learning Support Officers, Miss Govender, and our wonderful school administration team in the front office for their wonderful organisation.

YEAR 6 FAREWELL

The Year 6 farewell was held last night at Oatlands Golf Club. The students and staff had a great night. Thank you to Mrs  Foo and our fantastic Stage 3 teachers for their organisation of the night. Our fantastic P&C have kindly covered the cost of this year’s farewell.

I wish Year 6 all the best in their endeavours at high school next year. They have been a great group of students who are a credit to both their families and our school.

Always remember Carlingford Public School. Aim high and follow your dreams – nothing is impossible. To our Year 6 parents who will be ‘moving on to high school’, thank you for your support, suggestions and friendship over the past few years.

YEAR 6 LEAVING PARADE

Year 6 will have a leaving parade tomorrow afternoon, commencing at 2:10 pm with students being given a COVID friendly ‘guard of honour’ by all students K – 5. The parade will conclude with raising the Year 6 flag (signed by all students) and then ringing the original school bell to officially end their time at CPS.

Thankfully, we have been given permission to have the Year Six parents (only) on school grounds for this special part of their Graduation Ceremony. Only Year Six parents and careers who are fully vaccinated and wearing a mask will be permitted on-site. They will need to sign in at the library gate. This final part of the Graduation Ceremony should be completed by 2:30pm and the Year Six students will be able to leave early with parents upon it’s completion. Other students will return to their classrooms and leave at the normal times: K to 2 will depart at 3pm and the Year 3 to 5 students will leave at 3:15pm.

PRINCIPAL’S AFTERNOON TEA

Today, Principal’s Medallions were awarded to our students who have earnt three gold awards. Please click here for a list of the students. Unfortunately, due to COVID guidelines, parents will be unable to attend. We hope to be able to send photos home to families this week.

THANK YOU

I would like to thank you, our community, for the enormous effort you have played this year in supporting our students through home learning for over three months. Not only did this enable continuity of learning, it also kept the Carlingford Public School community safe. Your contribution cannot be overemphasised.

Let’s hope 2022 is a better year for everyone.

LAST DAY OF TERM

The last day of term for 2021 will be Thursday 16 December.
