Principal's Report Term 2 Week 10

P&C News

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) for Monday 29th June was postponed.  This was due to a lack of nominations for the Key Office Bearer roles of President, Treasurer and Secretary.  For those that don’t know about how the P&C operates, each year all positions held in the P&C are vacated at the AGM and nominations are sought.  All positions held in the P&C are voluntary roles.

This year for personal reasons the President, Secretary and Treasurer are not renominating.  If we had proceeded with the AGM and these roles were not filled, our Canteen and Uniform Shop, which are run by our P&C, would have ceased operating immediately after the AGM, as we would no longer be able to fulfil our obligations to pay our staff and suppliers.

The 2019 Office Bearers did not want this to happen and agreed to continue in their roles in caretaker mode until the AGM can be held, which will now be on the 17th August.  This will be the final date for the AGM, it cannot be postponed again, due to regulatory requirements.  We are seeking nominations for these 3 critical signatory roles, as well as the other roles that make up our committee.

We still held our General Meeting on the 29th June at 7.30pm to discuss how to move forward and are working on the suggestions out of that meeting.  Further information about the AGM in August and the office bearer roles will be sent out in the near future.

Our next meeting will be a General Meeting on Monday the 20th July at 7.30pm, in which the focus will be a discussion on how we are progressing towards nominations for the AGM.  This meeting will be held via Zoom, all parents and carers are welcome to attend.  Please keep an eye out for the details of how to join this meeting, they will be sent out shortly.

If you are interested in joining the P&C, and would like to discuss any of the roles, or receive any further information, please contact us through the below emails:

SEMESTER ONE REPORTS

Grade supervisors, Mrs Tramonte, Mrs Kristensen and I have read all student reports.  We are all very impressed with the efforts of the students, with the overall message being that students are enjoying their learning, striving to achieve their personal best and displaying growth in so many areas of their learning.  Once again, our thanks go out to our parents for the vital role they have played in student learning over Semester 1, 2020.  Reports will be available on the Sentral Parent Portal from Thursday, 2 July.

STAFFING

Next term we will advertise to fill the unfilled teaching position vacated by Mr McBain who left CPS to take up an Assistant Principal position at Orange Grove PS.  The successful applicant will commence at CPS at the beginning of 2021.

Early next term, we will hold interviews for the vacant General Assistant position.  Mr John Clowes is currently filling the role on a temporary basis. The panel will comprise of myself and Mrs Emily Wong (parent rep) who will represent our community.

B/A SCHOOL CARE LEASE

The before / after school care lease expires at the end of this year.  Next term the Department of Education will put out an invitation to tender, where a new 7 year lease will be awarded to the successful company. We are looking for vacation care and staff development days to be part of the service.

NEW FENCING / GATE TO BOTH ENDS OF A BLOCK

Last week fencing and gates were installed at both ends of A Block (Rickard St frontage).  This improves safety for students and also allows the front gate to A Block be left open during the day as all visitors must pass through the office foyer before gaining entry to the school.  Access through the front gates will now be easier for visitors and will improve office efficiency with visitors not having to use the intercom system. Thanks to our wonderful GA, John Clowes for installing our new fence.

EDUCATION WEEK – 2020

Education Week is an annual state-wide event that celebrates the NSW public education community. This year, Education Week will run from Monday 3 August to Friday 7 August 2020.

This year’s theme ‘Learning Together’ reflects an incredible year for NSW public school students, staff and parents, and the partnerships that have been strengthened in response.

Unfortunately, with current COVID restrictions we will not be able to hold our traditional CPS Open Day. We are hoping to give parents a ‘virtual’ taste of life at CPS through an online platform. Further details will be revealed early next term.

MULTICULTURAL PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

The Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition will take place this year. It is the competition's 25th anniversary.  Students in Stages 2 and 3 are currently presenting their speeches.  Stage finals will take place early next term.

Zone and regional finals will not take place at host schools or a central venue this year.  Stage winners from each school will have their speeches recorded and submitted digitally.  There will be no impromptu speeches this year.

HAPPY AND SAFE HOLIDAYS

I wish students, staff and parents a well - earned, safe and relaxing holiday.  Students return to school on Tuesday 21 July.
