3 – 6 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Yesterday our 3–6 Athletics Carnival was held at Barton Park. Primary students, (and Year 2 students turning 8 in 2019) competed in track events (800m, 200m, 100m and relays) and long jump finals. High jump and shot put heats and finals will take place at school in coming weeks. In next week’s newsletter, we will publish results from all events. Thank you to ‘Sport in Schools Australia’ (SISA) who ran running novelty events throughout the day, ensuring that all students were active participants.
CPS DEBATING TEAM
This year CPS formed a Debating Club. Debating provides interested students with the opportunity to develop their public speaking skills and compete against other schools. We have eight eager Stage 3 students who attend the weekly lunch time Debating Club to learn the art of debating and hone their presentation skills. We have entered two teams in the Premier’s Debating Challenge and have competed in two rounds against other schools in the local area on topics related to education and media. To date, we have won two debates against Rydalmere East PS and Dundas PS. We have also lost two debates to Northmead PS and Dundas PS. We have been very impressed by the passion and commitment our students have shown to public speaking. CPS certainly has a bright future in debating. Thanks to Mrs Pogainis and Mr Watts for coaching and managing our debating teams.
CARLO CUP 2019
Of the sixteen 2019 Carlo Cup teams, only two remain. The Carlo World Cup comes to an exciting crescendo this week as the highly fancied Belgium take on the determined England with a huge crowd expected. Both teams have come through the knockout stages with some tough results with only penalties being the only way to separate some games. It will be difficult to choose a winner, as on the park both teams have squads bristling with talent with neither side possessing any glaring weaknesses. Stay tuned next week to see who is crowned champions and the Grand Final review. Good luck to both teams.
FACILITY UPGRADE UPDATE
Construction activities at Carlingford PS have encompassed the completion of services rough-in, wall sheeting and ceiling framing across Levels 1 and 2. The metal roofing and guttering is also complete. Services rough-in and wall sheeting is continuing on Level 3, as well as the OSD tank installation. The Contractor has commenced the high-level cladding and window installation, which will allow the scaffold be dropped incrementally over the coming months. Our Project Reference Group will continue to meet on a monthly basis to discuss upcoming construction activities. Visit the School Infrastructure NSW’s website, for further information concerning the School upgrade: https://www.schoolinfrastructure.nsw.gov.au/projects/c/carlingford-public-school.html
END OF TERM DANCE PERFORMANCES
This term our students have been having dance lessons with ‘Sport in Schools’ every Monday. At the end of the term all grades will be performing their dance in front of the whole school. Kindergarten will perform their dances at their Friday afternoon assemblies. Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2) will perform on Wednesday, 26 June at 2:30pm, and Stages 2 & 3 (Years 3 - 6), will perform a week later on Wednesday, 3 July at 2:30pm. Parents are most welcome to attend.
WOOLWORTHS EARN & LEARN
Woolworths Earn & Learn promotion is well under way. Anyone can collect stickers to support your school when they shop at Woolworths, whether they’re staff, parents or friends. With every $10 spent* at Woolworths, one sticker is collected. These can be placed onto the Earn & Learn sticker sheets and dropped into the collection box at Carlingford Public School (front office) or Woolworths at Carlingford Court. Woolworths have once again partnered with Modern Teaching Aids, Australia’s largest supplier of educational equipment which will enable us to choose resources across Arts & Craft, Digital Technologies, Maths, English, Science, Outdoor and Indoor Play and more.
