A warm welcome back to school for 2019. I would especially like to welcome our new families to the Carlingford Public School community, including our 120 Kindergarten students.

Mrs Edgley officially commenced as our second Deputy Principal and has been invaluable in getting 2019 off to a smooth start. Mrs Edgley’s promotion has left the school with an Assistant Principal position that needs to be filled. Mrs Elliott will relieve in the AP position this term until the role is filled through merit selection towards the end of term.

Welcome to Mrs Pogainis, Mr Oram and Miss Wong who were appointed to our school through the interview process which took place at the end of last year. Congratulations to Miss Pires and Miss Grieve who were also appointed to our school as a permanent staff member through merit selection.

Congratulations to Miss Cheung who joins the CPS team as permanent staff members as being recently appointed by the Department of Education.

We also welcome Miss Stark, Ms McPherson and Mr Watts to CPS who have joined us as temporary teachers for 2019.

Welcome back to Mrs Jones who has returned after taking maternity leave.

Mr Boyd will take up a new role this year as ‘Technology Facilitator’ working in classrooms with teachers and students to embed technology into classroom practice.

Mr McBain has taken up a Relieving Assistant Principal position at Orange Grove Public School for twelve months.  Mr McBain plans to return to CPS in 2020.

2019 Classrooms

A map of the school is on the noticebaoard under the COLA at the rear of the Hall indicating the whereabouts of classes and classrooms within the school.

Please note that 2J’s classroom is currently under repair with the roof being replaced next Monday. 2J have temporarily relocated to 5/6N’s room (Room 53) with 5/6N moving into the EAL/D room (Room 34). We hope to have all classes back to their original rooms by Week 4. A huge thank you to the EAL/D staff for volunteering their room during this period.

Changed Bell Times

This year we have changed our bell times. The new bell times are given below.

9:25-11:25 Morning Session

11:25 – 11:35 Eating Time

11:35 – 12:10 Lunch

12:10 -2:10 Middle Session

2:10-2:30 Afternoon Tea

2:30-3:15 Afternoon Session

The new timeframe allows students to ‘recharge their batteries’ with a substantial meal in the middle of the day, followed by a lighter snack at afternoon tea. The two 2 hour sessions of learning optimise learning opportunities for students.

The two hour sessions also allow timetabling and support programs to be delivered more effectively.

Sport in Schools

This year CPS has employed the services of ‘Sport in Schools Australia (SISA)’ who will be providing our Dance, Gymnastics, Athletics, Social Skills, Health and Sports Development programs to all students K – 6.

All SISA staff are fully qualified teachers and experts in their field.

Students in Years 1 – 6 will have a two hour SISA session per fortnight. Kindergarten students will engage in a weekly 45 minute session. In Semester One, all students will complete the Dance, Athletics and Social Skills programs.

Costs for the program will be included in your term account. Some of the costs are being subsidised by the school. For further information refer to the news article on Sport in Schools.

Swimming Carnival

Our Swimming Carnival will be held next Wednesday Feb 13 at Epping Aquatic Centre. Races will commence at approximately 9:50am. Students are encouraged to wear their sport colours (no streamers). Hat and sunscreen will be essential. Students are asked to bring lunch, although there will be a canteen open for snacks.

All students from Years 3-6 and 8 year old students in Year 2 who can confidently swim 50 metres are eligible to compete at the carnival. This year we will provide an opportunity for students who are not competing to remain at school under the supervision of a number of staff members. Students who do not attend the carnival will not be invoiced for the trip.

In order to accurately book buses and arrange supervision for those students staying at school, please complete the following survey to indicate your intentions: https://goo.gl/forms/R84VQ59xhQYqMAdn2

Please complete the survey for each of your eligible children. Students are to arrive at school with swimmers under their clothes and a towel. Please bring underwear to change into at the end of the day.  Students must return their permission note to school this week. Costs will be included on the Term 1 account.

Meet the Teacher Afternoon/Welcome Disco

This year our ‘Meet the Teacher Evening’, will be held on Thursday 21 February. P&C Meeting and Social Evening

Monday 18 February, is our first P&C meeting for the year. The meeting begins at the special time of 7:00pm in the Library. Anyone is welcome to attend P&C meetings. These meetings provide you with an insight into the operations of the school and offer the opportunity to have input into future directions.

Our ‘Social Night’ will commence at 7:00pm following by our February P&C Meeting. The evening is a great opportunity to come along and meet some of our staff, parents and community members in a social and relaxed atmosphere.

After this initial meeting, P&C meetings will be held on the third Monday of each school month, commencing at 7:30pm in the library.
