Starting Kindergarten
Starting Kindergarten is a huge milestone for you and your family. There are lots of different ways families can support their children to prepare for transition to school.
- Is your child ready to start school next year? School readiness is determined by much more that a child’s age. In order to have a happy and successful start to school, children also need to have a firm grasp of a wide range of skills.

- Children are naturally curious about the world around them. They experience and come to understand the world and their place in it through play. Creating opportunities for children to explore, experiment, question and discover new concepts about the world in playful ways is central to their learning, development and wellbeing.
Here are some play-based activities you can engage with your child/ren at home: Play based learning
Here's a list of what to pack in your child's school bag each day:
- School hat
- School jumper (if appropriate)
- Spare underwear and a change of clothes (including a pair of socks)
- Lunch box packed with fruit/vegetables (for Crunch and Sip), lunch and afternoon tea
- Bottle of water
Any medication needs to be given to the office along with your child's medical plans.
What to leave out:
- Toys
- Anything you don't want lost or stolen
- Anything that will distract from learning
- Electronic devices including mobile phones
At Carlingford Public School, we participate in daily "Crunch and Sip". Crunch and Sip provides students with a short break to enjoy a drink of water and eat an extra serve of vegetables/fruit while remaining in their classroom. Crunch and Sip promotes healthy food habits and is intended to assist in maintaining student concentration over the course of the morning.

Welcome to all of our new Carlingford Public School families, from the CPS Parents & Citizens Association!
For those of you who are new to school; you may wonder what a P&C is, and what it does.
A Parents & Citizens Association (P&C) is a diverse and supportive group of parents, teachers and community representatives, who work together to build and maintain a strong partnership between Parents and the School.
The P&C runs important School services such as the Canteen, Uniform Shop, Class Parent Program, Fundraising Events and Bands.
The Class Parent program is especially designed to ensure that new parents at CPS can learn about the school, get up to speed and build great friendships for both their children and families.
Funds raised by the P&C from events, services and government grants are directed by our members to enrich the culture of the school and fund a wide range of projects to improve resources and infrastructure
You can get involved in the P&C by attending meetings, serving on the Executive or a Committee, or volunteering to help at events or our Canteen or Uniform shop. Membership is very cheap and allows you a real say in the future of your School, and your community.
As a parent, you can build networks with countless other school parents, keep informed about relevant issues, and support the activities of the School. Together we form a strong voice for the parents of Carlingford Public School and can accomplish a huge amount for our children.
