Principal's Report Term 2 Week 3

STAFF UPDATE

Congratulations to Mrs Bowey (currently on maternity leave) who was successful in gaining a permanent classroom teacher position through interview at Murray Farm Public School. She will take up the position later in the year. This is great news for Mrs Bowey and Murray Farm PS, but disappointing for CPS to be losing such a fantastic teacher.

On behalf of the students, staff and community, I would like to thank Mrs Bowey for all her efforts with the CPS community over the last few years. We wish her well at her new school.

WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY

Next week, Friday 14 May is ‘Walk Safely to School Day’. This initiative asks that we consider our transport habits and try and incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around.

Walking with your child gives you an opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. Active kids are healthy kids so start planning your own 'Walk Safely to School Day' journey.

The SRC are asking all students to walk to school with their parents if possible to promote this healthy activity. Students who participate may wear over their school uniforms a Red, Green, Orange, Yellow shirt, or Fluoro Vest to signify their commitment to road safety

Obviously, the safety of our students walking to school is dependent on motorists obeying the road rules, taking safe options and displaying common sense.

We all have a part to play in making ‘Walk Safely to School Day’ a successful day where safety is everyone's number one priority.  Hopefully, every day will become ‘Walk and Drive Safely to School Day’ at Carlingford Public School.   Visit https://www.walk.com.au to accesses a huge range of resources.

CPS TECHNOLOGY LEVY

At Carlingford Public School the 'Technology Levy' is used to provide access to digital subscriptions and online resources for all students. The subscriptions are available for students to use at home and school.

A number of digital subscriptions are used to provide students with opportunities to practice and implement their learning at an appropriate level.

The total amount of this annual fee is $50.00.

An explanation of the licences and subscriptions for this fee was sent to parents last week with a payment link attached.  The School would appreciate payment of this fee by the end of Term2.

KINDERGARTEN 2022 - OPEN MORNING

We will be holding an Open Day for 2022 Kindergarten families on Thursday, June 17 commencing at 9:45am. The morning will consist of a 'Welcome to Carlingford Public School' address in the hall, a tour of the school, a visit to the Kindergarten rooms and will conclude with morning tea.

We look forward to meeting our new students and their families.

Please inform any potential 2022 Kindergarten families of our Open Day and our wonderful school.

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

All assessments (apart from Year 3 Writing) will be completed online. The NAPLAN timetable is given below.

Tuesday, 11 May - Writing

Wednesday, 12 May - Reading

Monday, 17 May - Language conventions

Tuesday, 18 May - Numeracy

NAPLAN reports are usually dispatched to schools towards the end of Term 3. We then distribute the reports to parents.

CHECK IN ASSESSMENT

In 2020, the Department of Education launched the opt-in 'Check-in Assessment' to supplement existing school practices used to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor teaching to meet student needs.

The response from participating schools as to the diagnostic value of the online assessments was overwhelmingly positive, particularly how data from the assessments was made available to teachers within 48 hours.

As a result, the Check-in Assessment (Reading and Numeracy) will return in 2021 for all schools.

In weeks two and three of Term 2, (26 April - 7 May), Years 4 and 6 will participate in the Check-in Assessment.

In Term 4, Check in Assessment will be available for grades 3 - 6.

Neil Hinton,

Principal.
