HARMONY DAY

Carlingford Public School was awash with orange and stunning traditional clothes as students and staff celebrated Harmony Day last Friday.

Harmony Day provides us with an opportunity to promote respect, goodwill and understanding between Australians of all backgrounds. At Carlingford Public School 89% of our students are from a non – English speaking background with approximately 60 different languages being spoken by our students. The theme for Harmony Day, Everyone Belongs was certainly highlighted with over 40 different countries being represented by our student body.

Our students discussed diversity and culture in their classrooms engaged in a variety of activities including artwork and poetry. Thank you to all our teachers, our EAL/D team, canteen staff and parents for making our celebrations an amazing success.

EASTER HAT PARADE – Hats need to be brought into school by Monday 29th of March.

Many families in our school community celebrate Easter, and sharing traditions and celebrations is a valuable learning experience for all of us. The Easter Hat Parade is a long running tradition at Carlingford Public School, and is a fun way for us to share what is an important time for many of our friends.

Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students will be having an Easter Hat parade in the new Hall at 10.00am on Thursday 1st of April.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this indoor event will only be for students.  Please take photos of your child posing with their hat on at home.  This year students will be making their hats at home.  We would appreciate it if all hats could be brought in by Monday 29th March to allow us to ensure that every child has a hat for the day.  If you have any questions please see your child’s teacher.

NAPLAN ONLINE 2021

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

Our school will be participating in NAPLAN Online between 11 and 21 May 2021.

In preparation for NAPLAN Online, our school will also be participating in practice tests between 22 March and 1 April. The practice test is a trial-run and key preparation activity for NAPLAN Online in May. It is not an assessment of student ability and the tests will not be marked.

Excessive preparation for NAPLAN Online is not recommended. Students can use the public demonstration site (below link) to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests.

THE ‘TELL THEM FROM ME’ STUDENT FEEDBACK SURVEY – Yrs 4 - 6

Before the end of term, students in Years 4 – 6 will participate in the Department of Education initiative ‘Tell Them From Me’ student feedback survey.

The Tell Them From Me student survey asks students about a range of school experiences, including their engagement and wellbeing at school and beyond. It also asks students about teaching practices and the learning environment.

The survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes.

The Tell Them From Me student survey asks students about a range of school experiences, including their engagement and wellbeing at school and beyond. It also asks students about teaching practices and the learning environment.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide our school with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them.
