Principal's Report Term 1 Week 7

COVID-19 UPDATED ADVICE

Late last week the Covid-19 guidelines for schools were updated indicating that parents are able to enter the school grounds but should continue to follow COVID-safe practices, including social distancing between adults of 1.5 metres and implementation of a COVID-safe plan for school events where more than 50 adults are gathering.

The safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and community continues to be our priority. Due to limited playground space (many fenced off areas due to current playground upgrades), and a large student population, we will continue to maintain our current drop off and pick up procedures in order to meet the Department requirements.

Parents are to drop their children off after 9:00am at either the Keeler or Rickard Street gates. Parents are permitted to enter school grounds from 3:00pm onwards to collect their children.

On the advice of NSW Health the following activities may now resume across all schools in NSW.

·         Parents and carers can attend school sporting events, both on school grounds and offsite (including PSSA and sporting carnivals)

·         There are no recommended limits on singing groups in schools, including for in-class educational activities such as repetition, chanting, recitation, or singing activities.

·         Dancing activities – including dance classes, formals and social events – can proceed.

PARENT - TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent - teacher interviews are taking place on the below dates. Interview bookings go live on Friday March 12. The booking website and access code will be posted on School Story on Class Dojo. We are using a different website this year so parents can select a phone or face to face (“in person”) meeting. If you select phone, please ensure you enter the contact number for the teacher to call you on the day.

Interpreter meetings will be held by phone ONLY. Phone interview times for interpreters will be emailed directly to families next week.

Interviews are strictly ten minutes duration. If you require a longer meeting time, please message your child’s class teacher to arrange an alternative time.

If you are coming into the school for a face to face meeting, interviews will be governed by COVID-19 guidelines. More information on COVID-safe check in procedures, waiting areas and venue locations will be shared soon.

Thursday March 25 – Year 1 (except Class 1SR – Friday March 19)

Friday March 26 – Year 2

Monday March 29 - Kindergarten

Tuesday March 30 – Years 5 & 6

Wednesday March 31 – Years 3 & 4

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s class teacher.

PRE – SCHOOL GATE

Students and parents should not be entering or leaving school via the pre - school pedestrian gate or the vehicular gates in the top car park. The pre – school gate is solely for use by pre – school parents. We are currently looking into options to relocate the access gate for the pre – school.

Access to and from school grounds for Carlingford Public School students and parents should be via the Keeler Street or Rickard Street gate (outside the library).

CARLINGFORD PUBLIC SCHOOL – STRATEGIC IMPROVEMENT PLAN – Win a $50 canteen voucher for your feedback!

Thank you to all the community members that responded to our School Plan survey last week. We had a total of 209 responses which is 34% of our families. The information provided will help us to form our 2021 to 2024 school plan. It was great to see that 99% of our school community would recommend Carlingford Public School to other members of the community.

The winner of the $50 canteen voucher is: Muhammad in 5/6NB

DELIVERY OF NEW BEFORE / AFTER SCHOOL CARE BUILDING

The OSHC Hub was installed today. Plumbing, electrical, data a path and a ramp will be installed in coming weeks. We hope to have the building operational by the start of Term 2. The building will cater for up to 60 students.

The current OSHC lease agreement we have with Camp Australia will be reviewed in terms of their allocated play areas for the students. We are hopeful that the new building will be handed over to Camp Australia by the end of this term.

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY

Thank you to all the students and staff who participated in ‘Clean up Carlo’ last Friday as part of the ‘Clean Up Australia’ campaign. All classes were allocated a specific area of the school that they were responsible for.

Through participation in this initiative, students learnt about caring for our environment, recycling, waste management and sustainability.

HARMONY DAY

This year at Carlingford we will celebrate Harmony Day on Friday, 19 March. With the growing multicultural population in our school, we are already successfully embedding the message of inclusion and peace in our classrooms every day.

Students are asked to come to school in their national dress or orange-coloured clothes. Orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.

We all look forward to celebrating Harmony Day together again this year.

EASTER HAT PARADE

Many families in our school community celebrate Easter, and sharing traditions and celebrations is a valuable learning experience for all of us. The Easter Hat Parade is a long running tradition at Carlingford Public School, and is a fun way for us to share what is an important time for many of our friends.

Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students will be having an Easter Hat parade in the new Hall at 10.00am on Thursday 1st of April. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this indoor event will only be for students. Please take photos of your child posing with their hat on at home. This year students will be making their hats at home. We would appreciate it if all hats could be brought in by Monday 29th March to allow us to ensure that every child has a hat for the day.  If you have any questions please see your child’s teacher.
