On behalf of the students, staff and community of Carlingford Public School, I would like to thank the P&C for the tireless efforts in providing resources that enhance the learning opportunities for our students.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Thank you to our teachers and parents for their combined efforts in making our ‘parent – teacher interviews’ such a success. Using telephone ‘interviews’, teachers were able to touch base with over 90% of our parents. These interviews were unique, where parents were not only contributing to the discussions as parents, but also as part -time teachers, the role that was taken on during the learning from home period.  Our school will be forever grateful of the vital role parents played during this time, ensuring continuation of learning for our children.

SEMESTER ONE REPORTS

Grade supervisors, Mrs Tramonte, Mrs Kristensen and I are currently reading student reports.  We are all very impressed with the efforts of the students, with the overall message being that students are enjoying their learning, striving to achieve their personal best and displaying growth in so many areas of their learning. Once again, our thanks go out to our parents for the vital role they have played in student learning over Semester 1, 2020.  Reports will be available on the Sentral Parent Portal from Thursday, 2 July.

EASING OF COVID- 19 RESTRICTIONS

Recently the Department of Education have eased COVID – 19 restrictions regarding school operations. Students are now allowed to assemble together in larger groups of up to 15 minutes in duration. Whilst this time frame doesn’t allow us to recommence our weekly assemblies, grade or stage groups may be able to assemble for brief meetings and presentations. This ruling will also allow students to assemble in class groups under the undercroft and COLA before being taken to the classroom by their teacher.

‘Non-essential’ providers are now permitted to recommence their programs in schools.

Sport in School’s Australia (SISA) recommenced their programs today.  SISA will continue to operate on a fortnightly timetable, with Years 1 and 2 participating today and Years 3- 6  commencing  next Wednesday (Kindergarten participate in 45 minute weekly sessions).  SISA have stringent COVID-19 plans in place to ensure staff and student safety and appropriate social distancing.

After School Programs will recommence from the beginning of Term 3 (see details below).

Music tutors will return to face to face lessons commencing next term.

Scripture / Ethics - Scripture and Ethics classes will also resume next term.

All external visitors to the school are required by the Department of Education (DoE) to sign an agreement to abide by the strict Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) guidelines and NSW Health advice on COVID – 19 practices.

At this stage the Department of Education are still not permitting parents to visit schools except for special circumstances.

PSSA / CARNIVAL UPDATE

Parramatta / Merrylands executive met last week and decided that winter PSSA will be cancelled for 2020. Summer PSSA will recommence towards the end of Term 3.

All zone, regional and national carnivals have been cancelled for 2020. We are hoping to still hold CPS cross country and athletics carnivals during Semester 2. We feel that it is important for students to have the chance to participate in the sports carnivals if possible, and this will enable us to hand out our perpetual sport awards at the end of the year for CPS swimming, cross country and athletics champion.

YEAR 4 ‘OC’ APPLICATIONS – 2021 YEAR 5 PLACEMENTS

All Year 4 students have received a note a few weeks ago, outlining details for applying for Year 5 Opportunity Class (OC) placement in 2021. Applications must be submitted by this Friday, 26 June.

Opportunity classes cater for highly achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without classmates at their own academic and social level.  These classes help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.

Applications for opportunity class placement are considered on the results of the Opportunity Class Placement Test.  Students who wish to be considered for opportunity class placement will sit the Opportunity  Class Placement  Test on Wednesday 16 September 2020.

If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2021, you need to apply between Tuesday 9 June 2020 and Friday 26 June 2020.  You will need to access the online application at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5
