Principal's Report Term 3 Week 10

FAREWELL MISS CHOHAN

Miss Chohan will finish up at Carlingford Public School today as she will start her first permanent position with the Department of Education as an EAL/D teacher at Epping Public School.

Miss Chohan started at CPS as a casual teacher in 2015. Since then she has taught Year 1 and 2, worked as our teacher librarian and then moved into EAL/D where she has worked in the last two years.

Miss Chohan has had a huge impact on so many students at CPS and she will be very much missed by students, staff and community.  We wish her all the best at her new school.

SUPERHERO MUFTI DAY

This Friday, 27 September, we are having a superhero mufti day to fundraise for supporting farmers in drought. Students can come dressed as a superhero. This is linked to the imaginative writing unit that Year 2 has been completing this term, creating superhero comics. On this day Year 2 students will share their comics with other students in the school.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL POSITION

On Monday, we held interviews for our vacant Assistant Principal position. The position was created at the end of last year when Mrs Edgley was appointed as Deputy Principal, leaving an unfilled AP position.

Thank you to Mrs Elliott who has done such a great job as relieving AP throughout 2019.

The successful applicant’s details have been submitted to staffing for approval. A ten day appeal period then takes place before we can announce our new Assistant Principal. The successful applicant will commence the role in 2020.

Thank you to our panel members consisting of Mrs Castelletti (CPS rep), Allanah Cassidy (DP – Nth Rocks PS), Trudy Mendis (parent rep) and Priyanka Malhotra (EAL/D parent rep).

P&C TRIVIA NIGHT

A great night was had by all last Saturday evening at our P&C Trivia Night.

Thank you to our hard working P&C members, Svantje Duller, Trudy Mendis Linda Xu and Belinda Sultana for their organisation of the event. Special thanks to Abhinav Verma who hosted the evening and to Michelle Maynard for coming up with the questions.  I would like to acknowledge and thank the local businesses who supported the evening by donating

BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE

Our school is seeking feedback regarding Before & After School Care needs for 2020. We are hoping that all Kindergarten – Year 5 families can find 5 minutes to complete this short survey.  If we have an accurate idea of the demand for B/A school care, we can make sure that all children requiring placement will be offered a position.  Thank you for assisting the school in understanding more about your family’s child care needs.  The survey can be accessed through the following link,

https://forms.gle/J2CEpdMbpjKuJnZn9

The survey is open until the end of Term 3 and can also be found on Sentral and Class Dojo. Thank you for your support.

CARLO STAR SEARCH

This year Carlo Star Search 2019 will be held throughout Terms 3 and 4. We will be holding auditions starting from Week 2, Term 4. The schedule of auditions will be released in Term 3, Week 10.

Expression of interest forms were due to Miss Borg by last week 20 September.

All finalists will be announced after the audition process by classroom teachers.

Due to time constraints, if you are unable to make it to your nominated audition date, no make-up days will be offered.

Any music required for your performance and details of any props or equipment needed must be provided to Miss Borg with your expression of interest form. Only ONE form is required per group/performance.

The final will be on Tuesday 26 November (Week 7)

3-6 @ 9:40am

K-2 @ 12:20pm.

We look forward to seeing the many talents CPS has to offer!

COSFEST – SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

Our ‘Community of School’s’ will be holding its annual red carpet COSFEST short film festival on Wednesday, 20 November at Cumberland High School. Individual, small groups or entire classes are eligible to enter in the K – 2 or 3 – 6 section.

All films should be submitted in a digital format on a USB. Films need to be between 1 – 2 minutes in length. The compulsory element for the films this year is ‘voice’ which must be evident in some form.

Films need to be submitted by Friday 27 September to Mr Bhandarkar or Mrs Foo.

Interested students should see their teacher, Mr Bhandarkar or Mrs Foo for further details.

PEER SUPPORT PROGRAM

The Peer Support Program has now come to an end.

This week, we will be holding our Peer Support Party during afternoon tea on Friday 27th September 2019.

This is an exciting opportunity for students to celebrate the completion of Peer Support with their student peer group.

Your child will be given an invitation from their Peer Leaders, asking them to bring some food to share. Please note that students will have already eaten lunch and a small amount of food will be sufficient. Students are encouraged to wear mufti on the day (coinciding with the superhero mufti day).

We are trying to look after the environment and are aiming for minimal waste. Keeping this in mind, we would appreciate it if you could only provide a very small serving of food – this will only be shared with approx. 8 students. No plastic/paper plates, cups or napkins are required, nor are any drinks. Students are asked to bring their water bottles to the party if they require a drink.

Thank you for your support.

TELL THEM FROM ME – PARENT SURVEY

This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, Ipads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 26 August and 25 October, though participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

Information about the survey is available at : http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/

2020 KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS

Currently we have only 63 Kindergarten students enrolled for 2020. For the last three years we have commenced the year with 120 Kindergarten students spread across six classes.

If you have a child (or know of any families) who will be commencing Kindergarten at CPS in 2020, could you please call into the office and complete the enrolment process. It’s critical that we know accurate student numbers as soon as possible as this impacts on how many teachers and classrooms we will be needed. With current Kindergarten enrolment numbers, we would only form two classes in 2020 as opposed to the six classes we have had since 2017.

Kindergarten transition is planned to take place earlier in Term 4, which is earlier than our normal transition schedule.

HAPPY AND SAFE HOLIDAYS

I wish students, staff and parents a well-earned, safe and relaxing holiday.  Staff and students return to school on Monday, October 14.

Neil Hinton, Principal.
