Principal's Report Term 1 Week 11

PARENT / TEACHER INTERVIEWS

It’s great to see so many parents attending our interviews this year. Our new format of including the students has been very positive. Involving the students gives them ownership of their learning, being able to discuss strengths, areas for development, their personal goals and strategies to achieve them is very empowering.

PARENT / TEACHER INTERVIEWS -  USING INTERPRETERS – May 1 & 3

Thank you to all the parents who have requested an interview with an interpreter. Class teachers will send a notification through Class Dojo to confirm the date, time and location before the end of the week. This year, interviews will involve the class teacher, parents and student so please collect your child from their classroom five minutes before the interview. If you have any further enquiries, feel free to contact Ms Grace Wong or Miss Aisha Chohan who are organising the onsite interpreter service.

EASTER HAT PARADE

This week K -2 students, staff and parents had a great time at our Easter Hat Parade. There were many weird and wonderful hats on display with every student wearing a huge smile showing their creation to the audience. Well done to all our Mums and Dads who helped their children create their masterpieces. Thank you to Miss Stark for organising the event.

ANZAC DAY CEREMONY

As Anzac Day falls in the school holidays this year, we will be holding our Anzac Day ceremony on Thursday 11 April.

This year due to increasing student numbers and limited space, we will hold separate K – 2 and 3 – 6 Anzac services. The K – 2 service will commence at 10:00, with the 3- 6 service beginning at 10:45am.

Any members of our community who are currently serving members in the Australian Defence Force

are most welcome to join us wearing their military uniform. Similarly, students who are members of Cubs, Scouts or Girl Guides are permitted to wear their outfits to school.

Two flower bearers has been chosen from each class and they will need to remember to bring a posy of flowers for our school wreath. The flowers will be delivered to the K13 memorial on Thursday afternoon, following the service. Students are asked to be in full school uniform for this solemn occasion.

Parents and visitors are most welcome to join us.

NSW PSSA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Thursday, 11 April, Luke Lee, Eric Huang, Leo Lee and Samuel Lee will represent Sydney West at the NSW State Swimming Championships. Luke will compete in the 50 metre freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, 200 metre individual medley and Jnr relay.

Eric, Leo and Samuel will all compete in the Jnr boys relay. Good luck – we are all very proud of your achievements.

YEAR 4 ‘OC’ APPLICATIONS – 2020 Yr 5 PLACEMENTS

All Year 4 students will receive a note this week, outlining details for applying for Year 5 Opportunity Class (OC) placement in 2020. Opportunity classes cater for highly achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without classmates at their own academic and social level. These classes help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.

Mrs Elliott and Mrs Edgley will host a parent information session for Year 4 parents regarding the Opportunity Class placement process on Thursday May 9, 2019 at 5pm in the school hall.

If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2019, you need to apply soon. You will need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).

Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from Tuesday 30 May 2019 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5
The application website opens on Tuesday 30 April and closes on Friday 17 May 2019. No late applications will be accepted.

The date for the Opportunity Class Placement Test is Wednesday July 31 2019.

SIGNMEE – ONLINE PERMISSION NOTES / FORMS

Signmee is a web based system which we will use to send home permission notes and forms starting in Term 2. These can be filled out and signed online by parents without the need for printing or returning notes back to school with the student. Paper usage will drastically reduce and notes will become much simpler for parents, teachers and administrative staff to manage. All communications are able to be translated using online translation tools. A link to the term account will also be provided with each note to allow parents to check if they are up to date with their payments.

What do you have to do? You will automatically receive a welcome email from ‘Signmee’ this week. Simply click into the email, which comes addressed from ‘Signmee’ and take the steps to create a password. You will be alerted via email each time a new message or permission note has been sent to your Signmee inbox.

If you are not receiving emails from Signmee please contact the school to make sure we have your correct email address.
