REMEMBRANCE DAY

Our students commemorated Remembrance Day on Monday with a minutes silence at 11:00am. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, a treaty was signed that brought an end to World War One. Remembrance Day is a day to reflect on the atrocities of war and to honour and pay tribute to all those who have served in the armed forces to defend our country’s freedom.

Carlingford Public School has a long and proud association with the armed forces, with many of our past & present, students, staff and families fighting to defend our great nation. One of our teachers, Frederick Kilpatrick was granted special leave from the Education department in 1898, to fight in the Boer War in South Africa. Frederick was the first New South Welshman to serve in the Boer War.

Similarly, ex pupil Ray Simpson, was awarded the ‘Victoria Cross’ & the ‘Distinguished Conduct Medal’ for bravery during the Vietnam War. Tributes to both these soldiers can be found in our office foyer. “Lest we forget”.

TABLE TENNIS CHAMPS

Last Monday, the Table Tennis team competed in the Bennelong Cup at Macquarie University against a number of our local schools.

A huge congratulations to our girls team - Winnie, Cynthia and Justine - who won this year's girls division after a nail biting finals match.

Hain  and Krittiq  also received silver medals for coming second in the Champion Challenges. We were very proud of the sportsmanship our students displayed throughout the event, particularly when Finn and Jayden  volunteered to dress up as mascots for the coordinators, happily taking photos with all the attendees. Well done to the team and thank you Mrs Foo and Mrs Grimmond for taking them.

JOHN ALEXANDER 100km CHARITY WALK

Yesterday, John Alexander Federal member for Bennelong visited our school as part of his bi – annual ‘100 Walk for Rare Voices Australia’. Our SRC students had the opportunity to talk with John and covered a variety of topics from medical research, the bushfire crisis and even revisited his tennis career when he was ranked number 8 in the world.

John will walk through every suburb of his electorate to raise money for ‘Rare Voices Australia.

Rare Voices Australia is an organisation committed to raising awareness and funds to fight rare illnesses. They assist with access to treatments, data collection, coordinated care, access to services and coordinated research.

Despite the name, rare illnesses affect over 2 million Australians. The variety and complexity of rare illness means those who are diagnosed often face long and difficult treatment. In many cases, the health care system is organised towards treating diseases that affect many people. Individuals with rare illnesses are therefore more likely to go without the same level of support and assistance. This leads to preventable impacts on quality of care and life for these individuals. With enough awareness and support we can assist people with rare illnesses and ensure they receive the care and assistance they deserve.

John has left a donation tin in the front office for anyone who would like to contribute to this worthy cause. The tin will remain at school until the end of next week.

PRESENTATION DAY 2019

This year our Presentation Day will be held at school on Thursday 5 December.

We will run the same format as last year with separate K – 2 and 3 – 6 assemblies. The K – 2 assembly will begin at 9:45am, with 3 - 6 commencing at 11:40am. The performance band, dance groups, choirs and Ukulele group will all be performing on the day.

In both K -2 and 3 – 6 assemblies, medallions, trophies and banners will be presented to recognise their efforts throughout 2019.

Parents of students who will be receiving a medallion, trophy or banner, will receive an email informing them of this. If you do receive an email, we request that you do not inform your child / children as we would like it to be a surprise on the day of our presentation.

We are hoping you can join us on this special occasion to celebrate the achievements of our wonderful students.

PARENT HELPERS / SCRIPTURE / ETHICS TEACHERS’ MORNING TEA

CPS will be hosting a morning tea on Thursday 28 November at 11:00am to say thank you to our wonderful scripture teachers, ethics teachers and parent helpers who have done a fantastic job in 2019, teaching and assisting our students.

Our parent and community volunteers play a vital role at our school and provide wonderful opportunities for our students and staff. Further details will be posted on class Dojo in coming weeks.

2020 PLANNING

Planning has commenced for our 2020 classes and class structure. We are expecting to start the year with approximately 795 students spread across 31 classes. In an effort to get staffing, student placement and resourcing as accurate as possible, it’s critical that we know how many students will be returning to CPS in 2020.
