KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION

Last Thursday over 80 students and their families attended day one of our Kindergarten transition program.

Students had a great time, spending time in the classroom meeting our teachers and lots of new friends.

The program will continue for the next three weeks, with the program for parents outlined below.

Oct 24 – Jnr Dancers, ‘Miss Filippi address, other curricular activities, road safety.

Oct 31 – Band, Guest speaker – Dr Rosina McAlpine.

Nov 7 – Ukulele group, P&C, canteen, school counsellor, speech pathologist, after school activities.

We are hoping to form at least 5 kindergarten classes in 2020. (classes of 20).

5/6W’s CLASSROOM

5/6W have recently been removed from their classroom due to a roof leak that has resulted in wet and mouldy carpet. They have been relocated to the EAL/D room, next to Mr Oram’s room. We are hoping to have the room repaired and operational in coming weeks.

Thank you for the EAL/D team for their co-operation in vacating the room for the students.

RELOCATING 3J, 3L & 2K

From week six of this term, 3J, 3L & 2K’s classrooms will be removed from CPS to allow an access road at the rear of the new building to be constructed.

We are currently working out alternate workspaces for these classes for the last 5 weeks of term. They will most likely relocate to the library and Mrs Woodbury’s old classroom (once repaired).

TEMPORARY ADMINISTRATION / EXECUTIVE OFFICES RELOCATION

Due to the refurbishment of the ground floor of A block in Term 1 next year, administration & executive staff will relocate to 5/6N, 5/6R & 5/6K classrooms during this period.  A wheelchair ramp will be installed leading into 5/6N and this will serve as our front office area for Term 1.

As A Block will be classified as a construction site, Year 1 classes will not be able to use A Block during term 1.  Year 1 will be relocated to the existing Stage 3 demountables down near the Keeler St exit.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS

School photos will be taking place in Week 4, Tuesday 5 November. The photographs will include class, portrait and sibling shots.

All students in K-6 received school photograph order envelopes last week. The eldest child from each family should have also received a separate envelope for sibling photograph orders.  Instructions on how to place an order can be found on the front of the envelopes.
Orders can be made online at:

www.advancedlife.com.au

Online code: EK9 CPV XQB

We strongly encourage everyone to place an online order.  If you need to pay in cash, please send the exact money in the envelope straight to the school office, not your child's classroom teacher.  If you place your order online you do not need to return the envelope to school.
Payments must be made by Tuesday 5 November (Week 4).

Class, family, Year 6, prefect, SRC, library monitors and sport house captain photos will be taken on the day.  Students are expected to wear full summer school uniform.

CARLO STAR SEARCH

Carlo Star Search Auditions will be held on Wednesday (Years 3-6) and Thursday (Years K-2) in the hall at lunch time. Notes have already been sent home with students informing them of their audition date. Due to the significant increase in the number of auditions this year students will only be able to perform the first 2 minutes of their 3 minute performance in order for everyone to have an opportunity to audition. We look forward to seeing the amazing talents our students have to offer!

The final will be on Tuesday 26 November (Week 7)

3-6 @ 9:40am

K-2 @ 12:20pm.

We look forward to seeing the many talents CPS has to offer!

COSFEST – SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

Our ‘Community of School’s’ will be holding its annual red carpet COSFEST short film festival on Wednesday, November 20 at Cumberland High School. Individual, small groups or entire classes are eligible to enter in the K – 2 or 3 – 6 section.

All films should be submitted in a digital format on a USB. Films need to be between 1 – 2 minutes in length. The compulsory element for the films this year is ‘voice’ which must be evident in some form.

Films need to be submitted by Friday 27 September to Mr Bhandarkar or Mrs Foo.

Interested students should see their teacher, Mr Bhandarkar or Mrs Foo for further details.

TERM 4 ASSEMBLIES

Thursday afternoon assemblies will commence week two of term. The first assembly will be 3 – 6 followed by Stage 1 the following week.

TELL THEM FROM ME – PARENT SURVEY

This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, ipads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 26 August and 25 October, though participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

Information about the survey is available at : http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/

2020 KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS

Currently we have only 91 Kindergarten students enrolled for 2020. For the last three years we have commenced the year with 120 Kindergarten students spread across six classes.

If you have a child (or know of any families) who will be commencing Kindergarten at CPS in 2020, could you please call into the office and complete the enrolment process. It’s critical that we know accurate student numbers as soon as possible as this impacts on how many teachers and classrooms we will be needed. With current Kindergarten enrolment numbers, we would only form four classes in 2020 as opposed to the six classes we have had since 2017.

Kindergarten transition is planned to take place earlier in Term 4, which is earlier than our normal transition schedule.

Neil Hinton, Principal.
